Everyone loves baked beans! Sadly, not many people make their own, and it is very easy! Just try this little gem and you will be surprised and is the perfect addition to a fabulous Springbok BBQ.

  • Cook: 2 hrs 40 mins

Directions

1Heat oven to 180° C.

2Cook the bacon in a cast iron casserole dish over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until nearly crisp.

3Add the onion, salt & pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft.

4Add the drained beans, molasses, ketchup, mustard, and 5 cups water to the pot and bring to a boil.

5Cover and transfer to oven.

6Bake until the liquid is reduced by half, about 2 hours.

7Uncover and bake, stirring once, until the cooking liquid is thickened.

8Stir in the vinegar and serve.

Ingredients

125 g Sliced Bacon, cut into 1⁄2-inch pieces

1 Onion, chopped

Sea Salt

Cracked Black Pepper

500 g White Beans, soaked in water overnight and drained

200 g Molasses

200 g Ketchup

1 tbsp Dry Mustard

2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
